A Portland InstitutionThe Monte Shelton name is woven into the fabric of Portland automotive history and culture since the 1950’s. Please take a minute to enjoy learning about where we came from and where Monte Shelton Jaguar is headed in the future. HISTORICAL TIMELINE: 1959 – Opened “Bob & Monte’s Used Cars” at NE 29th & Sandy. 1963 – Opened “Monte’s Motors” at NE 7th and Broadway. 1968 – Moved to NE 34th & Sandy. Stayed until 1974. June 1974 – Moved to current location on Burnside. Purchased “British Motor Cars of Portland and renamed “Monte Shelton Motor Company." Sold MG, Triumph, Jensen, Austin, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Land Rover and, of course, Jaguar. 1976/77 – Sold more Jaguars than any dealer in the USA. 1974-1984 – Over this decade, most of the English automobile manufacturers either quit producing cars or stopped importing them altogether. 1980 – Saab brand was added. 1980’s & 90’s – Sold more Rolls Royce automobiles per capita than any dealer in the USA. 1989 – Ford Motors purchases Jaguar, saving the brand. Ford implements processes and quality control measures that forever changes Jaguar, making it one of the most reliable automobiles in the industry. 1998 – Dropped Rolls Royce and Bentley brands. 2000 – Jaguar introduces the S-Type. 2002 – Jaguar introduces the X-Type. 2001 – Dropped Saab brand to focus exclusively on Jaguar. 2003 – Showroom and service departments remodeled and modernized. 2004 - 2006 – Jaguar ranked #1 in Sales Satisfaction by J.D. Power & Associates. 2007 – Jaguar ranked #1 in Customer Service Index by J.D. Power & Associates. 2007 & 2008 – Jaguar awarded #1 in Initial Product Quality by J.D. Power & Associates. 2008 – Jaguar brand purchased by TATA Group. 2008 – Jaguar drops the S & X-Type models and launches the future of the brand with the all-new and highly advanced XF model. 2010 – Jaguar completely re-designs its flagship sedan, the Jaguar XJ for 2010. |
